Public Service Commission Commissioner Harun Maalim Hassan has donated his book titled Behind The wheels: Changing the Disability Narrative to PSC library. This happened on 19th March 2025 at the Commission House, Nairobi.
During the occasion, the Commissioner noted that the book will go a long way in helping the Commission understand the plight of persons living with disability and more so in ensuring equality and diversity in executing the Commission’s mandate.
“ I wrote this book to bring to light issues that persons with disability go through and express their hidden unnoticed capabilities which can be capitalised for national development,” said Mr. Hassan.
He further urged the Commission staff to take time and read the book which is ideal in enlightening them on matters dealing with persons living with disability.
“Misunderstanding often leads to poor service delivery and negligence of persons living with disability especially when they seek services from public and private institutions” he added.
Published in 2021 by Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB), Behind The wheels: Changing the Disability Narrative is an inspirational story of Commissioner Harun Hassan. He highlights his early life, chasing dreams, his resilience after life took a sudden twist when he was involved in a road accident that left him paraplegic. Mr. Hassan also speaks about his passion in camping the rights of the voiceless, unseen, unacknowledged and raised critical questions that push for national discourse.
