The Public Service Commission has embarked on a transformation of the public service to discourage unethical practices that undermine delivery of services to the citizens. The exercise took place at the Commission House on 24th-28th March 2025.
Speaking during the closing session of a week-long sensitization of the Commission’s staff on ethics, values and principles of public service, newly appointed vice chairperson Mary Kimonye reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to address issues of low integrity and waning public confidence in the public service.
“The perception out there is that the public service is corrupt and it is therefore our duty to recreate the right perception. It starts with every one of us,” said Mrs Kimonye.
She reiterated that transformation must begin with the commission as the benchmark for best practice before moving to the larger public service.
“Our ultimate goal is to transform the entire public service to be efficient, effective and responsive to public needs in line with our mandate as a commission. We are committed to this course and that is why we are sensitizing our staff on ethics, values and principles of public service,” she emphasized.
On his part, PSC Secretary/CEO Mr Paul Famba noted that the sensitization exercise within the Commission is a strategic move amongst other measures geared towards reforming the Commission. The PSC internal sensitization exercise was spearheaded by the ethics committee chaired by commissioner Mwanamaka Mabruki.
Meanwhile, the Commission has revamped the online jobs portal and configured it for easy management of the recruitment process. The new portal will only accept applications from candidates who meet the desired qualifications.
According to PSC’s Director, Management Information System, Mr Harry Ruhiu, the updated portal will reduce the amount of time it takes to shortlist candidates.
“We are in the process of streamlining recruitments and fast-tracking the shortlisting process that usually takes much of our time due to the high number of applications. The portal will automatically filter the applicants at the initial stages and reduce the longlist that includes applicants who do not meet the required qualifications,” said Mr Ruhiu.
